‘They are warning us’

‘They are warning us’

I think they are. The question is: are Catholics and Christians everywhere listening?   From Catholic Vote     Dear Frances,   One of the most arresting lines in the Gospel is the shout of the crowd before Pontius Pilate:   “Crucify him!”   An echo of that chilling moment happened this week at the Democratic convention.   Ilyse Hogue, president of the radical pro-abortion group NARAL, told the convention: “I made the decision that was best for me: to have an abortion…”   And the Democratic delegates roared with approval.     Gone are the days when Democratic candidates spoke softly about the “A” word. Not long ago, their platform aimed to make abortion ‘safe, legal, and rare.’ Today, their radical agenda has been...

Tender mercies, not terror

In light of the tragic scenes of trauma everywhere in the world, I just want to write something, anything to help make people feel better instead of analyze the unfolding calamities. It’s revealing to talk with people now days who’ve not had much experience with trauma, who suddenly find themselves embroiled in unimaginable daily news events which are deeply affecting their hearts and minds. If one has an ear to hear, the fear is becoming an unmistakable stronghold for many. How do I know this? I have two very old friends: fear and trauma. Yes, they have become my friends, but that’s a story for another day. Trauma is difficult trial/cross..It can send your emotions into shock, freeze your affections, make your thoughts not sync well, have you...

God doesn’t send us into ‘reverse arks’

It’s as close to my heart as if it were yesterday; a warm summer Atlanta day, an overcast sky, a forecast for rain, yet no threats of any tornado’s on the horizon for which our area was prone, though as a young mother, it doesn’t mean that I wasn’t praying  a ‘scar’t prayer’… or two. We didn’t have a basement in that precious house; just an underground kind of…. ark in reverse.  Under the house and adjacent to the deck was a large crawl space accessible only through a wooden latch door. It did have concrete walls, but the ground was left unfinished and always became muddy after a soaking rain. Why the builder chose not to finish it I’ll never know. It was as if he forgot to complete a portion of...

Not, no – just like the devil- but, yes and Amen

Bad mothering..Every mother’s nightmare whether Christian or not. In the latest Church Militant Vortex, we learn of a mother who, writing in a public newspaper column, celebrates her son’s leaving the faith. Normally, I back off mom’s decisions they make with their children keeping my opinions to myself, especially since through my 15 years of homeschooling everyone and their Aunt Tillie as they say, had one. For many years, I thought I owed everyone an explanation for God’s calling on my family and everyone who tried to hide their disapproval behind a twisted expression; but they only gave me great grief. However, I will admit there is a point to be made here on how the faith is being destroyed generationally, owing to the poor catechesis...
