A toleration that is treachery

A toleration that is treachery

As we journey into Holy Week, knowing our Savior loved His Church and gave Himself up for her, here is a fitting quote we may well consider:   There is a toleration which is treachery; there is a peace which issues paralysis. There are hours when the Church must say no to those who ask communion with her and in the doing of her work on the basis of compromise.    Such standing aloof may produce ostracism and persecution, but it will maintain power and influence.   If the churches of God in the cities today were aloof from the maxims of the age, separated from the materialistic philosophies of the schools, bearing witness alone to the all sufficiency of Christ and the perfection of His salvation, even though persecuted ostracized and bruised,...

A mother’s kind of broken

A mother’s kind of broken

Recently, I had a close encounter with a woman in the narthex of my parish. After Mass some stayed as always to pray, say the rosary and light candles in the chapel while making silent appeals to the Holy family. It was all very usual until the silence was broken by muffled cries. There in the back row, was a woman not much younger than I whom one might have mistaken for Hannah since, “in her deep anguish this woman  prayed to the LORD, weeping bitterly. ” 1 Samuel 1:10 People turned to look at her, then looked at one another with an unspoken question in their eyes: Should we do something? But, before anyone could make a move she stood up to leave. I would have sat with the rest and continued praying except for a strong prompt in my spirit...

Confidence in prayer

Confidence in prayer

What about confidence in prayer? Coming into the Lenten season and processing through some personally challenging times, it was a question I had, finding wisdom from my reading in Cassian’s Conferences, the book mentioned in Chapter 73 of the Rule of St Benedict. First, St Benedict mentions that if you are hastening on to the perfection of monastic life then; What page, what passage of the Old and New Testament is not the truest guides for human life? But also, he says, what book of the holy catholic Fathers does not resoundingly summon us along the true way to reach the Creator,   Whereby he mentions the Conferences and Institutes. You can access several formats of this work here, as well as a good introduction to this mystic, theologian and...

Father Rutler on the German modernists

There’s nothing left to say when you have a priest like Father Rutler who far surpasses any definition of eloquence and articulation, who is a master at diagnosing the cracks in the world and the church and addressing them with such precision you really don’t have to read anything else. In his latest article he brings to the forefront the German bishops, theologians and Card. Kasper: the modernists of the Rhineland. You know how much I love those modernists. I’m stealing a few gems that stood out to Father Z. They’re stunning; {…} The social consequences of German idealism were hymned in the refrain “Am deutschen Wesen soll die Welt genesen” (“The German spirit shall heal the world”) and it stained the twentieth century with its...

Family Day Roman style

Family Day Roman style

These pictures are amazing.  Imagine what could have been done with the support or encouragement of the Vatican. These photos were taken only in the Circus Maximus but, for honesty’s record, we must stress that many participants have preferred to attend the adjacent spaces.   “How many people are there today in the square? –   Wondered last night a participant on a social network –   I do not know and do not care much.   But I think just the idea that hundreds of thousands of people to move FREELY, without rich and powerful lobby behind, without the money moguls, without godparents famous rock singers, actors actresses etc etc … it is already in itself a great thing.   I don’t know if Italy will...

Felony charge for Planned Parenthood accusers

This is what it means to expose the darkness of the abortion industry today: Indict the the director of the Center for Medical Progress, David Daleiden and clear Planned Parenthood of any wrongdoing.    “Mr. Daleiden has been praised as a hero by some religious opponents of abortion.”   He is. The comments following this article in the New York Times are all the evidence one needs of how invested this culture of death is in abortion. I stopped after this exchange: Lida shad lakeland Do I go home and celebrate or cry after I abort a human life. I guess it doesn’t matter.                         ——–  ——– M Rudd Fairfax, VA Do whatever YOU choose to do. It’s your body. That’s the point. It...

The long and short of it

The long and short of it

Looking back on some older posts and thanking Lord for only two more classes to go to complete my Advanced Catechist Certification.. It was and is … all grace.     I just finished a book I’d put off reading for several years, mainly because I’d heard mixed reviews about the author. Read his early works people said, not his later writings. Well, I assumed since I was away from the church so long I couldn’t be bothered filtering through someone’s writings who wasn’t a saint. There’s too much to catch up on; too many mystics who can stir the soul in only one chapter, or doctors of the church who can quench a question before you realize you have one.   But, I needed a book for another class I’m taking, which is why I haven’t written...

The true weapon

The true weapon

In anticipation of the March for Life in Washington tomorrow, here is a re post from January 2013…   I couldn’t be at the March for Life in Washington yesterday, but wanted to do something besides pray at home..I went to the local abortion clinic which is about ten minutes from my house, where I’ve often prayed during the 40 Days for Life campaign. The facility sits in a plaza off a main highway where when keeping vigil, we’re permitted to stand by the main road, not allowed beyond a certain point in the parking lot.   Yesterday, no one was by the roadside praying, so I decided to sit in my car parked right outside the office of that death mill and pray the rosary. Sadly, as at other times, I witnessed a young woman exit after...
