Modern Day Portraits of Courage

Modern Day Portraits of Courage

There are two people in the news this week who give me hope in a time when portraits of courage are rare finds indeed. The first is a young woman raised in San Jose, California, home schooled through high school, who at the age of 15 founded Live Action, an American pro-life non profit organization, dedicated to building a culture of life and ending abortion.   She is 25 years old and her name is Lila Rose. And did I mention ….she is fearless. Yesterday, she released a statement about the death of a 29 year old woman and her 8 month old baby at the hands of late term abortionist Le Roy Carhart:     “While his twenty-nine-year-old patient and her eight-month-old baby were dying horribly, late-term abortionist Leroy Carhart skipped town,...

Multitudes on Monday

Multitudes on Monday

Now brethren, we urge you to praise God. That is what we are all telling each other when we say,  Alleluia.   —St Augustine      Joining the ladies at Suscipio Moments of Gratitude   :: coming home after a long day, {307} :: welcomed by my 2 furry, pet children, one tail wagging, the other purring {308} :: sinking onto the living room couch {309} :: facing the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary enthroned atop the piano {310} :: thanking the Lord that through many dangers, toils and snares…we have already come {311} :: making time for a pedicure {312} :: sun peeking out behind the outer rain bands of hurricane Issac {313}   The Ordinary is Extroidinary   :: cooking from the same old pot that was a wedding gift 29 years...

I Will Follow You, Lord

I Will Follow You, Lord

I have said this to the Lord many times;   I will follow You wherever You go.   What could I have known of the risk and commitment it would require to put my hand to the plough? It’s only by grace that I have not looked back, though I have often been tempted. Here at Suscipio, you’ll find the rest of the story.     +PAX

Hastening Through

Hastening Through

The Ascension Jacopo Tintoretto 1581   All the mysteries of the Word Incarnate were to close with His Ascension; all the graces we receive are to end with ours. This world is but a figure that passeth away; and we are hastening through it to rejoin our divine Leader. In Him are our life and our happiness; it is vain to seek them elsewhere.     Whatever brings us nearer to Jesus, is good; whatever alienates us from Him is evil. The mystery of the Ascension is the last ray of light given to us by our Creator, whereby He shows us the path to our heavenly country. If our heart is seeking its Jesus, and longs to come to Him, it is alive with the true life; if its energies are spent upon created things, and it feels no attraction for its Jesus, it is...

Giants in the Land

Giants in the Land

I love going back to my old Bibles and reading the notes I wrote in them years ago. They remind me of many hard fought battles won because the Lord’s arm was ‘never too short ‘ to deliver me out of whatever difficulty I was in. ( Num 11:23) Recently, in reading through the Book of Numbers I came across this little notation I scribbled under Chpt 14, where the Israelites rebel and refuse to enter Canaan after Caleb returned from his spy mission to the promised land,   Giants in the land is only an indication that I have arrived. Will I have underlying faith in God like Joshua and Caleb or the sinful attitude of the other spies?   I wonder what crisis I was in at the time ? I don’t remember, but as I read it today I...
