Beauty in the Ordinary

:: spying on a red headed woodpecker in a massive oak tree while on my rosary walk

Moments of Gratitude

:: homemade pizza and Greek salad for Father’s Day dinner

:: escaping the heat in the only way you can down here…in a pool

:: I’ll be a grandmother in a month

:: all the Lord has brought me through

:: He loved me and cared for me even when I didn’t think I was salvageable

In the Kitchen ~ Meatless Monday…and the rest of the week

:: Spicy Kale with Yellow Peppers and Onions

:: Polenta and Black Beans with Steamed Broccoli

:: Slow Cooker Lentil Soup, Salad

:: Blackened Tilapia Sandwiches, Corn on the Cob

::  Tofu Sloppy Joes

Pondering

I’m a little scattered in this category lately…

:: what my father would be saying about the condition of our nation and the world were he alive today

:: how I can best help my grandchild be all God wants him to be

:: remembering my Benedictine promise of “constant conversionthat I might be all God wants me to be”

:: the importance of the Our Father in the Divine Office

One of the principle effects of the Lord’s Prayer, says Dom Morel

“is to contribute to the remission of our sins and to cure the maladies of our soul. It is, says St Augustine, like a daily baptism in which we are washed and purified of our stains…but for it’s effects to be felt it must be said with holy dispositions and a spirit of charity.”

— Commentary for Benedictine Oblates, G A Simon, p.199

Reading and Praying

:: The Book of Numbers and meditating on 15:37-41– Tassels on Garments

The LORD said to Moses,

“Speak to the people of Israel, and bid them to make tassels on the corners of their garments throughout their generations, and to put upon the tassel of each corner a cord of blue;

and it shall be to you a tassel to look upon and remember all the commandments of the LORD,

to do them, not to follow after your own heart and your own eyes, which you are inclined to go after wantonly.

What tassel (sign of significance) will I set before my eyes this week that I might keep my thoughts, eyes and heart on Him and not the inclinations of my old sinful nature?

    LOVE the blue tassel symbolism…so have you made one yet : ) I think you are on to something here.

    Okay…slightly jealous that you will be a grandmom in one month LOL! Trust me…I am not rushing it…none of the kiddos are ready yet (let’s get married first!). But I do so look forward to holding a newborn babe. Can’t wait to see pics.

    Have a most blessed week and keep cool.

      Theresa, You’ve set me on a mission to find a “blue tassel” craft. I will make one and post how I did it. What if we all had one tied to our rosary, or laying on our Bibles or by our bed stands…or other creative ways women with Martha Stuart talents can come up with?

      I still can’t believe I’m going to be a grandmother..Never in my wildest dreams all “those years ago” did I ever imagine such a blessing. I can’t wait to hold him..I always imagine newborns being newly sent right from the gates of Heaven and the Lord’s arms.

      Blessings always and +

    A Rosary walk! I haven’t done one in ages. Thank you for the reminder, and for the thoughtful insight on the Our Father.

      Marcia, Thanks for stopping by! I try to do a rosary walk whenever I can, although this time of year it becomes really challenging because of the heat. : )
      I loved the idea of the Our Father being a daily baptism.
      Blessings always and +

    Caroline..only one more month! I was thinking about you in adoration today. I’m so excited for you. Like Theresa said: we want pics! You are going to be the best grandmother…what a lucky baby boy! :)

    Loved the commentary on the Our Father…so beautiful. Also love the blue tassel idea. Such a tiny word from Scripture…and yet such significance.

    Your meatless Monday’s (thru Sunday’s!) always make me smile…but also hungry when I read the menus.

    Trying to stay cool here too! Thank God for a/c everywhere.
    Love and hugs xoxo

      Patricia, I can’t believe how fast the time has gone. Seems like yesterday I got the phone call from my son..” Mom, I have a surprise for you !!!!”
      I’m having a challenge with the tassels. I actually found the real ones used (called Tzitzits on a Hebrew site), but they’re very intricate and expensive to make. So, I’m trying to pull together the Hebrew roots with a Christian flair and see if something comes to mind….Or maybe a simple blue tassel like the one from Facebook will do.

      I don’t always have a menu …Some weeks I just lose momentum and poop out LOL

      It’s been really hot here…We need the daily rains to start and cool things off.
      Love and blessings always +
