Fall in Love, Stay in Love

Fall in Love, Stay in Love

Christ in the Desert

Ivan Kramskoi

Isn’t He beautiful?

Seeking His face; this has been the test of my Lenten journey.

Have you ever found yourself going along in your spiritual life saying your prayers, fulfilling the duties of your vocation, hungering for a closer union with God but, if I’m honest, allowing the cares and worries of the world to choke the Word in my life?

My spiritual director instructs me time after time…

Don’t pray on emotion….just pray; whether you feel the skies have opened and sense the consolation of God, or your Breviary might just as well be the newspaper.

Just pray, confess, keep seeking Him. Tell Him you love Him.

And trust.

Enter an unexpected trial during Lent that comes in like a flood and suddenly a fiery sorrow burns away the dross….

The words of the Psalmist rise up out of the dryness pointing me to an oasis in the desert, a spot where the elevation is now low enough for me to see the presence of a spring. A spot I would never have found on my own–

And there He is.

Behold, I am doing a new thing

now it springs forth,

do you not perceive it?

I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.

—Isaiah 43:19

Yes, Lord, in the desert of my life; You are the Spring of Life–

The way the truth and the life.

I fall in love again as in my younger days, when as a child, I had no one to trust but God.

The Lenten desert has a unique way of revealing who I’m really in love with and what has captured my thoughts .

Nothing is more practical than finding God,

than falling in love in a quite absolute, final way.

What you are in love with,

what seizes your imagination, will affect everything.

It will decide what will get you out of bed in the morning,

what you do with your evenings,

how you spend your weekends,

what you read,whom you know,

what breaks your heart,

and what amazes you with joy and gratitude.

Fall in love, stay in love,

and it will decide everything.

So beautiful and rich, dear Caroline. Thank you for sharing. Love that you are falling in love….again. May that love grow ever deeper, by God’s Grace.

Trials do have a way of revealing the Lord to us..we realize that He is all that really matters. How good He is to always be there waiting, longing for us.

    Yes! He is beautiful!!!

Love and prayers to you, dear friend. Pls keep praying for my sister, who now has a kidney stone which must be treated Friday. She has been through so much lately.
    Thank you! xoxoxo

Oh Patricia…2013 has started off with quite a bang.. He is all I need,(and want) but sometimes it gets so covered up by things going on, personally and in the world.

I will keep praying for your sister, especially on Friday– and for you also…to stay well.

      Love you…Blessings and +

Thank you for this beautiful reflection, Caroline.
I had first heard the Fall In Love; stay In Love on a silent retreat I made a few years ago. The priest who said Mass for us throughout the retreat used it on the last day of the retreat. It does make you stop and take stock of things in a beautiful way.
    Love the painting!

Karin, I was quite struck by the “Fall in Love” work, and like you the Lord timed it just right. Had I read it a month ago, it wouldn’t have had he same impact.
That painting has haunted me (in a good way) all day.
So nice to see you here.
      Blessings and +

Sorry I am late responding to this post, but it has been a very busy St Joseph’s feast day in our family. A good thing! I can relate to the worries of life “choking” our prayers and seizing our thoughts. I pray always to stay in love with Our Lord.Hope you had a blessed feast day Love and prayers

Joyce, It was a beautiful St Joseph feast day here as well. And I’m always grateful for whenever you show up!
I’m praying for the grace, especially as my children get older and the family grows, to trust more and “choke” less : )
      Love and Blessings always +
