It’s All in My Head

The biggest spiritual battle is fought ….between the ears.

“The life of the Christian has three distinguishing aspects:

  • deeds
  • words
  • thoughts

Thought comes first then words, since our words express openly the interior conclusions of the mind.

Finally, after thoughts and words, comes action for the deeds carry out what the mind has conceived.”

In order to wage the battle successfully, we must make sure;

“…that all our thoughts, words and deeds are controlled by the divine ideal…

the revelation of  Christ.”

When I find myself slipping into a black vortex of fears–whatever they may be–I renew my mind with the contrary promise of God from His Word.

Though I may be hanging by a thread battling my humanity, I rehearse that divine truth over and over in order to stop the chain reaction.

“The mind of Christ is the controlling influence that inspires us to moderation and goodness in our behavior”

It is all in my head...but I know this…He is my Jehovah Shammah,

The Lord is my Companion.

I read this reading during my lunch hour today and loved it. St Gregory’ wording was so beautiful. It is so true about the greatest spiritual battle being between our ears. My thoughts so often get the best of me. I have to remind myself to rein them in!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this as well as St Gregory’s.
    God bless.

Karin..When I read the saints, I’m stunned by the clarity of their ability to address the struggles I deal with. Who knew that St Gregory could explain the battle between the ears so well? : ) The whole passage from the Divine Office is wonderful.
My thoughts can get the best of me too..if I let them. It’s an old struggle and the older I get the more material their is to work with.
      So glad you stopped by.
      Blessings always and +
